Last Alarm

It is with great sadness that we gave the Last Alarm to Ronald J. Holdwick.  Ronald passed away at home on Friday, July 2, 2010 with family by his side. After a long battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). He was born in Harbor Beach, Michigan on December 13, 1942.
He served on the Saginaw Fire Department for 22 years.
 
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, with burial at St. Andrew Cemetery. Arrangements for Ronald J. Holdwick's funeral were entrusted to McIntyre Funeral Chapel, 500 N. Michigan Ave., Saginaw, Michigan.

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather passed away suddenly Sunday, June 25, 2000, at home. Age 70 years. He was born January 29, 1930 in Saginaw. He served with the U.S. Air Force in the Aleutian Islands during the Korean Conflict. He had been employed by the City of Saginaw Fire Department for 27 years, retiring as Captain in 1981. He served on the City Council for the past eight years, serving a term as Mayor Pro-Tem. He was a member and Past-President of Firefighters Local #422/102, past Vice-President of the Michigan Firefighters Association and past Vice-President of International Firefighters Association 8th District for eight years. He was very civic-minded and had a long political career. In addition to his work with the City Council, he served as Chair of the Carousel Committee at the Saginaw Children's Zoo, served on the Riverfront Committee and the 911 Committee. He was active in the Saginaw Labor Council and the Saginaw Democratic Party. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post #1566.

He married Dorothy McMullen August 8, 1951; she survives him. He also leaves six children and their spouses, David M. (member SFFA 102-now retired) and Linda DeGuise, Sandra J. and Gary Ulicki, Laura A. and Thomas Brabant, Jeffrey T. DeGuise, Teresa M. and Craig Hammond and Michael E. DeGuise, all of Saginaw; nine grandchildren, Adam and Crystal Westendorf, Janel M. and Aaron M. Ulicki, Samantha, Jennifer and Jordan DeGuise, Craig E. and Joseph Hammond; two great-grandchildren; several nephews, nieces and cousins. 

He was predeceased by his parents, Thelma and Ernest Richmond and his grandmother, Mrs. Gertrude Earle.
