Saginaw fire officials investigating two Sunday incidents

SAGINAW, MI — Three structures were damaged in two fires Sunday morning. Firefighters were dispatched to 2430 Hosmer for a garage fire at 5:30 a.m. Sunday. The garage was destroyed and siding on a nearby house was damaged. A woman was inside her home when the fire spread from the garage to her property. She was able to get outside safely. At 10:55 a.m.

SAGINAW —Firefighters responded to a structure fire at 10 p.m. tonight at 715 Hayes, soaking the structure and extinguishing the flames in a matter of minutes. Jazine Washington, 19, who lives nearby, saw a flickering light and stepped outside to see the garage starting to burn. "I stepped outside and saw flames so I called 911," Washington said.

SAGINAW - A 49-year-old Saginaw man was taken to the hospital after firefighters found him unconscious in an upstairs bedroom of a burning house at 627 S. 11th on the city's East Side. A 15-year-old inside the home was also transported for smoke inhalation, said Saginaw Fire Department Battalion Chief Maurice Patterson.

SAGINAW — Four fires at vacant houses within a two-block area on the city's East Side this afternoon likely were intentionally set, officials say. Crews began fighting fires on Annesley, South 12th, and South 13th about 1:30 p.m. and continued past 3 p.m., said Battalion Chief Tyrone Harge.

Westside Fire

SAGINAW -- Firefighters here pulled a "small pet dog" from a home ravaged by a fire this afternoon. Crews responded to the fire at about 1 p.m. at 212 Borland, near Adams Boulevard, on the city's West side. Neighbors say a man living at the residence left for work this morning. Battalion Chief Tyrone E. Harge said officials have not been able to contact the owner yet.

Who we are
Welcome to the Saginaw Firefighters Local 102 Web Site. We are located in Saginaw, Michigan, approximately 90 miles north of Detroit. We are Michigan's First International Association of Fire Fighters affiliate. We are also a member of the Michigan Professional Firefighters Union and the Michigan AFL-CIO.

We currently have 66 uniformed members, ranging from Firefighters, Fire Engineers, Lieutenants, Captains, Training/Safety Officer, Deputy Fire Marshal, Fire Marshal and Battalion Chiefs, all dedicated to the goal of ensuring we have fair wages, decent hours and safe working conditions. We meet the 3rd Tuesday of every month. Our union strives to be a part of our community by participating in and donating to local, state and national events such as the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon, Arson Watch, the Annual Memorial Day Parade, the Cinco De Mayo Parade, the East Side Soup Kitchen, the H.O.S.T. program (a mentoring program), visiting schools and many other civic and charitable events.

Saginaw has a population of 56,263 (2007) residents. Land area is 17.6 square miles. The Saginaw Fire Department operates 4 fire stations: Central Fire Station (Station One) with one Engine and One Ladder Truck; Fordney Park Fire Station (Station Two) with One Ladder Truck; Hess Street Fire Station (Station Three) with One Engine and State Street Fire Station (Station Four) with One Engine.
